Riders with helmets ready for a quad tour in Agafay

No driving licence is needed for Loisir Expert’s guided quad and buggy rides in Marrakech. The quad biking age limit is 16 to drive: under-16s ride as passengers, while drivers aged 16–17 need parental authorization and the guide’s approval. Buggy drivers must also be at least 16, and buggy passengers are accepted from age 3.

These are the participation rules for our tours in Morocco, not a summary of French road law. Before booking a quad in Marrakech or a buggy Marrakech experience, give us every participant’s exact age and say who hopes to drive.

Quad biking age limit rules for a rider in the Agafay Desert

Do you need a licence for quad biking in Marrakech?

You do not need a car, motorcycle or quad driving licence for the guided off-road experiences described here. The rides take place as organized tours, with a guide, protective equipment and a safety briefing before departure.

“No licence required” does not mean that everyone can drive. The minimum ages still apply, and every driver must understand the briefing, control the vehicle safely and follow the guide’s instructions. The guide can keep a participant as a passenger if driving would not be safe on the day.

Beginners are welcome on the linked tours. You will learn the controls, starting and stopping, safe following distance and how to react on uneven ground. Listen carefully even if you have driven another off-road vehicle before: a quad and a buggy handle differently.

The rules on this page apply to Loisir Expert’s guided activities around Marrakech and Agafay. They should not be used to decide whether a vehicle can be driven on a public road in Morocco, France or another country.

Quad biking age limit: who can drive and who rides as a passenger?

The minimum age to drive a quad on our guided rides is 16. The practical rules are:

Age alone is not the only safety check. The guide also considers whether the participant can reach and operate the controls, understands the instructions and feels comfortable with dust, noise and uneven terrain. Never enter an older age simply to complete an online booking.

For a family with a younger child, tell the team the child’s age before paying. Passenger arrangements depend on the selected activity, vehicle and safe seating. Do not assume that a buggy’s minimum passenger age automatically applies to a quad.

Buggy age rules for drivers and passengers

Buggy drivers must be at least 16. Drivers aged 16–17 need parental authorization, and the guide makes the final safety decision after the briefing. Passengers can join from age 3, while children under 10 stay with an adult.

The standard buggy is designed for a driver and a passenger seated side by side. A four-seat family buggy can suit groups who want an eligible adult or older teenager to drive while other family members ride together. Capacity must always match the vehicle booked; a child never shares a seat.

Send the ages of all participants before the tour, especially when the group includes a three-year-old, a teenager who wants to drive, or more passengers than eligible drivers. This lets the team confirm the correct vehicle and seating plan before pickup.

If a 16- or 17-year-old plans to drive, arrange parental authorization in advance instead of trying to solve it at departure. The guide can still refuse or stop driving if instructions are not followed.

What to bring for the safety briefing

Bring a clear passport photo on your phone for each participant. You do not need to hand over the original passport for the ride, but keep your normal travel documents secure and follow any instructions sent with your booking.

Wear comfortable clothes that can handle dust and closed shoes with a secure fit. Sun protection is useful throughout the year; bring a light jacket in cooler weather. Helmets and the necessary protective equipment are provided for the guided activity.

Before departure, the team explains the controls, the route rules and safe spacing. Use that moment to mention any uncertainty, mobility consideration or first-time nerves. Our guide to is quad biking in Marrakech safe explains the briefing, equipment and responsible riding in more detail.

Pickup details are confirmed with the booking. If a vehicle cannot reach a riad inside the medina, the meeting point may be the nearest accessible location. Arrive on time so the whole group can complete the briefing without rushing.

Which ride suits each age group?

Choose by eligible drivers, passenger ages and how the group wants to sit—not by age alone.

For a fuller comparison of controls, seating and ride formats, read our guide to choosing a quad or buggy. If anyone is close to an age threshold or has specific needs, contact the team before booking rather than relying on a general rule.

Can a 15-year-old drive a quad in Marrakech?

Not on the Loisir Expert tours described here. A 15-year-old rides as a passenger, subject to the confirmed activity and safe passenger arrangement.

Can a three-year-old ride in a buggy?

Yes, buggy passengers are accepted from age 3. Children under 10 must stay with an adult, and the group must book a vehicle with the correct number of seats.

Do 16- and 17-year-olds need parental authorization?

Yes. A 16- or 17-year-old who wants to drive a quad or buggy needs parental authorization and must receive the guide’s approval after the safety briefing.
